Ready your cocktail attire and join us for an inspiring evening with Bishop Steven Lopes. He will be sharing about this new and thriving part of the Catholic Church known as the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter and how it is successfully evangelizing using a uniquely beautiful and reverent liturgy. Toward the end of the evening you will get to hear how the Ordinariate is thriving and changing lives right here in Jacksonville Florida, especially in bringing many of our Protestant brothers and sisters back to the Catholic Church, and how you can join in positioning St. James to become even more effective in this important mission.
Purpose: Inspiration and Fundraising for St. James Catholic Church to move to a long term leased location and complete a church buildout at the location.
Schedule: Cocktails at 5:00 PM (cash bar), Seating at 5:45 PM Dinner at 6:00 PM. Fr. Mayer speaking at 6:30 PM. Break from 7 – 7:15 PM, then Bishop Lopes speaks until 7:45 PM. Short video presentation, pledges collected and counted during choir performance, immediately prior to announcement of funds raised, all wrapping up tentatively by 8:00 PM

About the Speaker for the Evening: The Most Reverend Stephen J. Lopes was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of San Francisco where he served in parishes prior to being assigned to the Vatican to work for the Congregation or the Doctrine of Faith (CDF) for ten years. During this he was intimately involved with much of the behind the scenes work required to realize Pope Benedict XVI’s desire to erect the Ordinariate. He was appointed by Pope Francis as the first bishop of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter and consecrated in 2016. In addition to his responsibilities for the Ordinariate, in 2022 be began serving as the newly elected Head of the Committee for Divine Worship for the United States Catholic Council of Bishops (USCCB).
