Who were the Holy Myrrhbearers?
The Holy Myrrhbearers Guild are those individuals with special care for the body of Christ, both the setting up of the altar where the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ will become present and also for preparing the space for the people of the Body of Christ.
The Holy Myrrhbearers Guild takes its name from those mentioned in the New Testament who were directly involved in the burial and discovery of the empty tomb following the resurrection of Jesus. They were those who had brought funeral spices and ointments to finish committing Christ’s body to the grave. They were the first to see the empty tomb and were instructed by the risen Lord to bring the joyful news to the apostles. So, also the Holy Myrrhbearers Guild are those who arrive first in the morning to prepare for the Mass on Sunday, the day of Resurrection and also those who put everything away after the celebration.
