Dear St. James Family, |
This Sunday I am preaching on the sanctification of labor. How can you work as a teacher, manager, programmer, stay at home mom, or counselor in such a way that the work itself makes you holy and you sanctify the world through your work? I hope that you will come and join us this fifth Sunday of Eastertide to offer yourself in thanksgiving to the Lord and to learn about the sacredness of work.

Did you Know that the Church Asks that Catholics be Able to Sing in Latin? At St. James it is our practice to sing the Propers (Gloria, Holy, Holy, Holy, Lamb of God) in Latin during Christmas and Easter, since these are the most festive seasons of the year and by singing in Latin, the official language of the Catholic Church, you are reminded of your part in a global Church that goes beyond local customs and languages. It is the desire of Mother Church that the faithful are able to sing at least some of the parts of the Mass in Latin so that when the faithful come together from different countries, they can sing together at least some of the parts of the Ordinary of the Mass in Latin. You can read more about this in the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, which is found in the beginning of every Roman Catholic Altar Missal.
Make a Good Marriage Great: Learn about Teams of Our Lady, May 12 Connect with other couples, grow spiritually, have fun. A Team is comprised of seven couples (whose marriage is recognized in the eyes of the Catholic Church) who meet monthly, rotating from one home to another. The team shares a simple meal, prayer, sharing on endeavors, and a study topic. Teams of Our Lady is a movement of “married spirituality” officially recognized by the Holy See under the Pontifical Council for the Laity. This is an information meeting which means there is obligation, just an opportunity to learn. Friday May 12, 2023 6:30 PM at the home of Chad and Raquel Tripp (RSVP to obtain their address). Share the Information Meeting Flyer.
Celebrate the Ascension on the Actual Fortieth Day after Easter! On Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 5:30 PM we will be celebrating Mass for Christ’s Ascension into heaven. While many Catholic dioceses move this celebration to the closest Sunday, in the Ordinariate it is celebrated on the fortieth day after Easter since this is when the Ascension took place (see Acts 1:3). This is a Holy Day of Obligation for Ordinariate members. Arrive early to get a decent seat. Last year for this Mass seating was full since even many non Ordinariate Catholics like to attend the Ascension on the actual day. Please also keep in mind that traffic is bad during this time of day, so if you are joining us, you will want to give yourself some extra time to arrive.

Give Thanks for our Seminarians Last weekend, we held our second collection for the Seminary Formation Fund. Thank you for your support! If you still wish to make a contribution, you may give online or use a give envelope this Sunday at Mass. Help insure the stability and growth of the Ordinariate by sending a gift in support of our seminarians.
Hearing Christ’s Voice is Not What you Think – Listen to the Homily you Missed from April 30, 2023 Jesus said that his sheep hear his voice, however there are many who do not know what this actually means. Learn what it truly means to hear and respond to Christ’s voice in a much more ordinary way than you would think. Learn why Christ ordinarily speaks through his Church, rather than directly to a person. Listen to this and my other homilies at StJamesCC.org/Homilies or by searching “Fr. Mayer’s Preaching & Teaching” wherever you get your podcasts
